THE TAX SEASON FOR THE VITA PROGRAM WAS THE BIGGEST EVER!
We want to thank all of our friends and volunteers, from businesses (Wells Fargo, Affordable Homes, UTRGV, STC, City of RGC, Roma , PSJA, La Joya, and McAllen, Independent School Districts, Lonestar National Bank, BBVA, Goodwill Industries, Security Service Federal Credit Union) school districts and municipalities, who have impacted 3000 families by completing tax returns at no cost. The amount of money returned to these families in our two county area, Starr and Hidalgo, totaled, $6,074,000.00.

We talked to families about basic budgeting, opening savings accounts and suggested they think about setting goals on what the family needs most over the next couple of years. The majority of our clients have realistic goals for utilizing their tax returns. Taking care of bills (especially medical) and buying books for a college student are commonly listed as priorities. The United Way of South Texas has spearheaded this program for 5 years and has experienced growth every year. We will continue to raise awareness as we prepare for the 2016 tax season which will open in January 2017.

Think about the economic impact this program brings to our 2-county area. To get involved, please call 956-686-6331, or go to ... www.volunteersotx.org.

Impact families, impact our local economy!
