Make-A-Wish® Rio Grande Valley teamed up
with the South Texas Mopars Club, led by David
Guzman, in a raffle to raise money to grant
wishes, including that of 14-year-old, Matthew,
from Alton. The South Texas Mopars is a club
for all Mopar enthusiasts, owners of such vehicle
brands as Chrysler, Ram Srt, Jeep, Dodge,
and Plymouth. On their Facebook page they
say that they are "not just about talking cars"
but about "friendship, family and giving back
to the community".
They did just that in their McAllen International
Carfest this year, where they raffled off
a 1971 Blue Dodge Charger Super Bee. They
fully restored the old muscle car just for making
wishes come true for valley children with
life-threatening medical conditions. Last year,
the club successfully restored a 1969 Roadrunner
for Make-A-Wish®. All proceeds benefitted
the Make-A-Wish® Rio Grande Valley.
The lucky winner of the beautiful Dodge
Charger was Mr. James Dunn, from Alamo, TX.
This event raised enough for 8 ½ wishes!
Matthew was the first child to be granted a
wish from this year's Mopar Club's contributions.
Matthew's diagnosis is leukemia.
His wish was for a very specific new sound
system for the family car, and his wish was
granted! Matthew has grown up working with
sound systems since he was little and has developed
a feel for installing them. He has always
enjoyed the bass sound most of all. Matthew
has gotten so adept at installing sound systems
that he competes with relatives, with each one
better than the system before. He is very sure
this will be the all-time winner! When asked
what his wish was, Matthew expertly rattled
off specifics to be acquired, and Matthew was
not disappointed! Earlier this spring the South
Texas Mopar Car and Truck Club presented
him with the beautiful sound system of his
dreams.
Make-A-Wish® Rio Grande Valley gladly
thanks The South Texas Mopars for putting on this excellent event and making this fine contribution
and appreciates everyone who offers
their time and generosity.
Make-A-Wish® Rio Grande Valley grants the
wishes of children with life threatening medical
conditions. They do this because they believe
the wish experience is often a source of
inspiration for children undergoing difficult
medical treatments and a positive force that
helps overcome their obstacles. A wish experience
is often more than a dream come true: It's
the catalyst that rekindles their belief in themselves
and the promise of their future.
