Robert Calderon remains satisfied with the
services offered by VITA volunteers.
United Way of South Texas and the IRS partner to offer
training to volunteers prior to service.
For at least eight years, Robert Calderon
dreaded the income tax season. In
2006, he became a victim of identity
theft. The criminal who stole his identity
racked up thousands of dollars under
Calderon's name, leaving him in debt
to the IRS. "For years, I wouldn't have
anything coming back to me," Calderon
said.
Fortunately, he had a breakthrough in
2014. With the help of a program administered
by United Way of Laredo,
Calderon was able to get his identity
back. Furthermore, Calderon learned
that he was eligible to receive free income
tax preparation services through
United Way of South Texas's VITA program.
Since then, he has been a faithful client of the program.
"Thanks to United Way, they took care
of my problems and put my heart and
mind at ease," Calderon said.
