New Salvation Army Leaders Arrive in McAllen

Ready to Serve in McAllen.

The Salvation Army McAllen/Hidalgo County is pleased to welcome new Corps Officers (church leaders), Captain Stephen & Lt. Bernadette Correira. They assumed their position on June 19th and have quickly settled into their new surroundings. They are looking forward to getting to know the community and continuing the ministry of The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every 3-4 years. Captain and Lieutenant Correira are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders and come to McAllen from Texarkana, where for the last 3 years they were responsible for the programs and services of the Texarkana Salvation Army Corps.

Stephen and Bernadette, both native Texans, met in September of 2010 at The Salvation Army, Family Camp. Captain Stephen Correira was commissioned (ordained) as a Salvation Army Officer/ Pastor in 2010. Lt. Bernadette Correira was commissioned (ordained) as a Salvation Army Officer/Pastor in 2014.

Combined they have served in Fort Worth, Houston, Odessa, and most recently in Texarkana. Together the couple has a wonderful ministry and they are passionate about the mission of The Salvation Army. They have one child, Jedidiah, who is two years old, and now expecting their second child, a boy, who will be born in McAllen. In their spare time they like to entertain Jedidiah, explore new restaurants and watch the latest movies.

"It has been exciting to meet the people of McAllen and discover the opportunities for ministry here," said Capt. Stephen Correira. "We look forward to meeting the needs of this community and 'Doing The Most Good' alongside the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army."

The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the emergency shelter, soup kitchen, and two Family Stores. "Many people don't realize that The Salvation Army is a church," said Capt. Stephen Correira. "We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 11:00 AM, at The Salvation Army, located at 1600 N. 23rd Street here in McAllen. We look forward to meeting you soon!"
